BOSS! Maybe the most prolific, well recognized brand of Japanese canned coffee in the states, BOSS is a symbol of quality. I tried looking up who the man on the can is, and while Tommy Lee Jones appears in Japanese commercials for the brand the face is actually William Faulkner. If I had known I would’ve finally read my tattered copy of As I Lay Dying in preparation. BOSS is quality, and I’m excited to try our second BOSS drink later in the month. But I’ve got a bit of a problem.
Today’s drink of choice, BOSS Rainbow Mountain Blend, comes in a (dense) 6 ounce can. Wow, what a dense can. That thing doesn’t get damaged in shipping, it damages others. It beats up the weakest tin in the yard to assert dominance, it towers over the alloys. Hannaford employees in New York State shake your hand and kiss your ring when you exchange one of these, lord. Such a dense can protecting such a small quantity of liquid, and for 3 dollars! Value wise this is one of our worst, it’s the same price as a pour over at Cocoa Cinnamon and it has half the liquid. BOSS Rainbow is maybe the most ‘sophisticated’ coffee on this list, the flavor profile is lovely!
The coffee they’re using is clearly of a high quality, the roast is perfect, the whole thing is perfect. It tastes like 3 dollars but it doesn’t taste like 50 cents an ounce. You’ve gone through and gotten the coffee and brewed it, pour a bit more into a bigger can! If you’re in a place in this country where you can find imported cans of coffee you can surely find a good roaster around. But if not, if you’re really out in the country with nothing but an asian supermarket and your wits, or you’re traveling, or you order these online, it’s very good. Just see if you can get a good deal though. This is our second most expensive coffee per ounce, and it tastes like it.
I'm just noticing that the american distributor for BOSS is in the town over from me. Then why isn't it cheaper?!
