You know, every review on this page so far has been for coffee with cream and sugar, as intended. Even Boss Rainbow, the most prestigious coffee drink we’ve had, contained cream and sugar to make it more palatable. Happy Cold Brew is our second and last Target drink, and contains coffee, derived from arabica beans and water. No milk, no sugar, no phosphates to act as preservatives even. This is simply… coffee! This exposes a glaring weak spot in my coffee knowledge, I don’t really know what demarcates good coffee. I know what good coffee and bad coffee taste like, and I know what I enjoy.
This coffee isn’t too bitter, a nice.. medium roast? Maybe? I can’t keep this up, this is coffee. It’s less bitter than I’ve had it before, thats the best praise I can give. Maybe somebody more qualified could give this the credence it deserves but that someone is not me. I’m just a rabbit, not a coffee expert! I can tell you that this coffee is a bit more expensive per ounce than our benchmark high quality pour-over, but it does have the convenience of being canned I suppose. It sits happily below average on our scale, and it comes in a large enough can to be a considerable choice. The brand also benefits NAMI, The National Association of Mental Illness, somehow. A support line number is listed on the can along with a QR code, but their website doesn’t mention a portion of proceeds going to the association or anything like that. NAMI’s press release mentions the association getting ‘an equity stake in [the] business, and the partnership ‘going beyond traditional corporate giving’ so it looks like real good is being done here.
More good than buying Starbucks drinks, anyway.
Would I recommend this coffee? Maybe, I would say that if your local shop has cold brew get that instead since you’ll probably be able to get more for less money, but the cold brew I’ve had has always been excessively bitter and this is very tolerable. This may actually be worth it, if you can find it. I’ll don’t know how I’ll rate the flavor though, since the flavor profile is totally different on this since it doesn’t have the prerequisite cream and sugar. I mean I rated that vanilla dunk-a-roo drink like normal, so why not this too?
