Good news, I know someone who speaks a bit of Japanese! I’ve had this can’s writing translated so I can actually tell you what it says… on the front. Look I’m not going to have someone work for an hour just to tell me what the flavor text on the back of the can says! Plus, isn’t that somewhat cheating, removing the mysterious element of the drink? Oh well, to the review!

nutritional facts

Oh, BOSS, can you do wrong? Your Faulkner-adorned coffees and teas never fail to bring joy to my heart and sugar to my ventricles (ain’t I a poet?) From the translated text on the part of the can you can see in the first photo I know that the coffee is super fine ground, ultra dark roast, and made from brazillian coffee beans. These are all good signs, usually, BOSS is spending a bit more on the beans and processing to hopefully achieve a better product. Or at least, charge more for it. 6.5 ounces of drink for two dollars and 19 cents is ridiculous, no matter how good this ends up being please don’t pay that much. Pokka or highlands will get you by just fine, even mister brown.

This isn’t just an Ebisu problem, it’s a BOSS problem. Higher quality ingredients make for better coffee, yes, but it also raises the price past the point where the can is practical. But never mind that, how does it taste? Bitter! Despite the sugar it’s decently bitter, certainly a dark roast. The liquid is relatively clear for something with milk, suggesting the cream and sugar are kept to a minimum to highlight the beans and the roast. It’s good! Melody’s notes: The dark roast has a surprisingly complex flavor profile for something in a can, and the bitter isn’t too overpowering. The tasteful addition of cream and sugar without ruining the roast is greatly appreciated, BOSS knows what they’re doing.
