We graduate from Ebisu to Asia Mall, a small mall in I think Bloomington with a grocery store, home goods stores, and lots of restaurants. I went with my translator, bicycle coach and advisor to the calligraphic department to get lunch and do some shopping. It was a lot of fun, and I got plenty of practical things for my apartment. I also had Korean fried chicken for the first time, quite good
I was very, very happy to see a large shelf of coffees old and new, it was like seeing a bunch of familiar friends. This was when I had the idea to start buying coffee here every week so I don’t have to drink the garbage at work. We shall see how that goes, but for the time being we have three new ones to review. The first is Freeze, a Thai brand I had never heard of before. At first I thought the art on the front of the can was an old lithograph of a city scape. It’s ice. I am blind.
After tasting it… I know this sounds bad but stick with me. I assume this coffee was roasted in a vessel that was heated with gas, presumably isobutane or something like it. I can taste it in the drink a decent amount, but it’s not unpleasant. Frankly the coffee tastes like lighter fluid but in a way I don’t hate! Maybe I’m just a freak (I am) but the lighter fluid coffee excites me. It’s lighter fluid I’m allowed to drink. I understand for most people this taste would be bad and that’ll be reflected in the score but still, a unique experience!
FLAVOR SCORE-3/8, 6/8 if you're a freak
VALUE SCORE-5/8
